Pennsylvania law requires licensed insurance agents and brokers to complete continuing education credits to maintain their license. Failure to complete the minimum requirements during your two (2) years licensing cycle will result in a loss of your license.

The Insurance Department has partnered with professional firms to monitor and approve courses and instructors to maintain your continuing education credit history. The Continuing Education Requirements are as follows:

With license renewal- Licenses renew on the date the
License was issued, every 2 years.

 Training Methods: Classroom, Self Study

 Course Subject Requirements:

None.

 Course Subject Repetition:
Courses can only be taken once for credit per
License period

 Credit Carry Over:
A maximum of 24 hours may be carried over to
The next license reporting period.

 Method of Certification:
The course provider must issue the certificate of Completion to the producer. The course provider Reports the credits to the CE Administrator. Currently, Sircon (Vertafore). The CE Administrator processes the CE credits Within 10 business days of receipt and reports them To the Department of Insurance. The CE Administrator will send the producer within 90 days of the license expiration, a copy of the CE courses taken and recorded during the compliance period. Producers must keep original certificates of course completion for 6 years.

 Exemptions: (A) Producers licensed continuously since 12/31/70, Unless an additional line of authority was added After that date
(B) Individuals whose only line of authority is a restricted Line
(C) Individuals licensed only for Fraternal (restricted)
(D) Licensees who first obtained license under Section 609 (c) of the Fraternal Benefit Societies Code and whose appointments remain limited to Fraternal Benefit Societies
(E) Individuals whose only line of authority on their license Is a Domestic Mutual Fire
(F) Motor Vehicle physical damage appraisers
(G) Surplus lines agents or members
(H) Reinsurance intermediary brokers or managers
(I) Producers that are a firm, institution, a partnership, a Corporation or a association
(J) Non-resident license if producer is in compliance With their resident state.
